“Understanding Marriage in our Culture”

(1 Corinthians 7:1-28)

I. If you are going to get married, live like you are married. (1 Corinthians 7:1-9)

  1. We were created with the capacity and desire for intimacy.
  2. When you enter into a marriage relationship, you are giving yourself to your spouse.
  3. Do not use intimacy as a weapon or a tool for leverage.
  4. When we abstain from intimacy, we open the door to temptation.

II. If you are going to get married, realize it is a lifelong commitment (1 Corinthians 7:10-16)

  1. God’s standard for marriage
  2. God’s instruction to believers married to unbelievers
    • Stay with your unbelieving spouses.
    • Your presence may be their only exposure to the gospel.
    • If the unbelieving spouse leaves, you are not bound by that relationship.

III. If you are going to get married, know what you are getting into. (1 Corinthians 7:25-28)
