“The Curse of Covetousness”

(Exodus 20:17)

I. Understanding the command. (Exodus 20:17)

  1. Not all coveting is bad. (Psalm 68:16)
  2. Coveting becomes sin when we desire something that someone else has.

II. The curse of coveting.

  1. Coveting is an attitude while all other commands are actions.
  2. Coveting is a miserable journey of misguided course correction. (Judges 13:3-5)

III. The cure for covetousness. (Philippians 4:10-13)

  1. Contentment comes when we learn that it is an internal transformation and not an external transaction. (Philippians 4:10-11)
  2. The secret to contentment is found when we discover that Jesus is the source of our contentment and not the conduit of our contentment. (Philippians 4:12-13)
