“Creating God in Our Own Image”

(Exodus 20:4-6)

I. Our human tendency will always be to create images of God.(Exodus 32:1)

  1. We do not trust what we cannot see.
  2. Our flesh desires a reminder more than we do a relationship.

II. Our desire for an image of God will always lead to idolatry. (Exodus 32:2-4)

  1. We have created an idol when the symbol becomes a substitute.
  2. An idol will always rob God of his true glory.

III. The journey of the Jews and the first commandment. (Exodus 32:5-6)

    1. He is a jealous God.
    2. He is a God of justice.
    3. He is a God of mercy.

IV. The only correct image of God was provided in Jesus. (Colossians 1:15)
